Yates Center pair qualifies for 2012 sand greens state – Humboldt’s Sellman going to 3A state

Yates Center High’s Dylan Bauman and Nick Schemper will make a return trip to the Kansas High School Sand Greens State Golf Tournament.

Bauman, a senior, finished 12th overall at Monday’s Kansas Sand Greens Regional Golf Tournament in Leonardville. He finished with a 91 while Schemper, a sophomore, carded a 92. The two Wildcats qualified for next Monday’s state tournament

The Kansas Sand Greens state tournament is at Mankato.

Yates Center finished sixth as a team with a 425. Rock Hills claimed the regional championship with a 302 led by top medalist Adam Horn.

Others playing in the regional for Yates Center were: Richie Mentzer, 119; Mason Hartwig, 126; and Jadan Knoblock, 135.

“I think every one of our players had a hole or two whose scores killed our chances to qualify as a team,” said Kevin Barnes, Yates Center golf coach.

AT ERIE,  Humboldt High’s Robbie Sellman qualified for the Kansas Class 3A State Golf Tournament next Monday.

Sellman fired an 82 for the Kansas Class 3A Regional Golf Tournament on the Prairie Ridge Golf Course. Sellman had rounds of 41 and 41.

Sellman lost a playoff to Pittsburg St. Mary’s-Colgan High’s Bailey Beykirch (40-42) for eighth place. Sellman finished ninth.

Humboldt’s Tye Taylor ended up with a 109 (55-54).

Sellman will play in the 3A state tournament at Sugar Hills Golf Course in Goodland.

AT PLEASANTON Monday, Uniontown High and Marmaton Valley High golf teams competed in a Kansas Class 2A Regional Golf Tournament. The 18-hole tournament was at Deer Trace Golf Course at Linn Valley.

Uniontown’s Eagles were fifth as a team with a 480.  Kansas City Christian won the tournament with a 354.
